Head of Media

0.8 FTE

 

Purpose of Position

  • To oversee the media studies courses offered at Mount Pleasant College (MPC)
  • To provide leadership for the media studies trainers and staff of MPC
  • To provide training for the media studies students of MPC (including Graphic Design)
  • To assist with the leadership and development of MPC
  • To assist with the promotion of MPC and its training products

 

Key Responsibilities

  • To foster mutually-beneficial working relationships with key stakeholders, including partner schools and partner organisations
  • To raise awareness of MPC and its products with existing and potential customers
  • To investigate new courses and products that will complement those offered at MPC
  • To demonstrate a thorough understanding of, and commitment to support, MPC’s purpose, ethos and organisational structure. 

 

Essential Tasks

  • Oversee the training of media students at MPC; 
  • Provide training for media students at MPC; 
  • Completion of administrative tasks relevant to the position of Head of Media as requested and in accordance with MPC Policies and Procedures; 
  • Participate in relevant course development processes, including the validation and moderation of assessment items; 
  • Provide assistance with all matters relevant to RTO registration and accreditation – eg, completion of reports associated with RTO audits and/or amendments to scope of delivery; 
  • Create and foster healthy relationships with key stakeholders; 
  • Participate in promotional activities and events; 
  • Contribute to strategic planning initiatives of MPC; 
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of professional development activities appropriate for the media studies trainers at MPC. 

 

Essential Competencies

The behaviour, skill and knowledge considered essential to perform tasks in the position

 

  • Appropriate tertiary-level qualifications in media studies 
  • Hold a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment as required by the Standards (2015) 
  • Hold a current Working With Children check 
  • Appropriate experience in the media industry 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Familiarity with media-specific software packages, including MS Office 
  • Patience, maturity, sensitivity and empathy for clients Able to use initiative and make decisions appropriate to the position 
  • The ability to liaise effectively with external agencies and other staff 
  • An excellent understanding of, and support for, MPC, its mission, ethos and functions

Music Trainer

  • To provide training services to the music performance students at MPC
  • To facilitate the development of music performance production skills among music students at MPC
  • To contribute to the ongoing development and review of school curriculum
  • To assist with the promotion of MPC and its training products

 

Key Responsibilities

  • To instruct and encourage MPC music students
  • To contribute to the development of the music training programmes at Certificate II, III,
    and IV level which meet all requirements of the CUA Creative Arts and Culture training
    package units
  • To contribute to the development of training and assessment resources required by
    the College to meet the requirements of the VET regulator
  • To identify resources useful for the development of the music offered at MPC
  • To demonstrate a thorough understanding of, and commitment to support, MPC’s purpose, ethos and organisational structure

Sound Production Trainer

Purpose of Position

  • To provide training services to the Sound Production students at Mount Pleasant College (MPC)
  • To assist College students and staff during Professional Performance Practice and recording sessions
  • To contribute to the ongoing development and review of school curriculum

 

Key Responsibilities

  • To instruct and encourage MPC sound production students
  • To contribute to the development of training programmes at Certificate II, III, and IV level which meet all requirements of the CUA Creative Arts and Culture training package units
  • To provide documentation and resources required by the College to meet the requirements of the VET regulator
  • To identify resources useful for the development of the sound production courses offered at MPC
  • To demonstrate a thorough understanding of, and commitment to support, MPC’s purpose, ethos and organisational structure 

 

Essential Tasks

  • Instruct MPC sound production students
  • Develop training materials to be used when instructing MPC sound production students
  • Store copies of all documentation produced in the development of the training programmes in the appropriate location(s) on the College server (note: this includes teaching plans, student handouts, module outlines and assessment instruments)
  • Participate in the process of validation and moderation of course materials, including assessment items
  • Assist with the procurement of equipment once approval has been granted by the Head of College
  • Complete all administrative tasks relevant to the position of Sound Production Trainer as requested and in accordance with MPC Policies and Procedures.

 

Essential Competencies

The qualifications – academic, skills and knowledge, personal and behavioural – considered essential to perform the tasks required of the position
